Alligators and crocodiles are among the oldest, largest and most advanced reptiles on earth. Survivors of the days of the dinosaurs, these redoubtable predators are highly specialised for life in tropical and subtropical rivers, lakes, swamplands and marshes, habitats which they have dominated for over 140 million years.
