CRITICALLY ENDANGERED - CHINESE TIGER
The Chinese tiger is one of the world's most critically endangered species. It is estimated that there may be only 10 to 30 remaining in the wild today. The future survival of this subspecies of tiger looks very bleak, indeed many conservationists believe it's fate is already sealed. Save China's Tigers has been established to try and save this beautiful animal from extinction.

About Save China's Tigers
(UK Registered Charity - 1082216, US 501c(3) status)
Save China 's Tigers (SCT) is a charity established to protect and conserve the Chinese Tiger, in the knowledge that the species is essential for the maintenance of a balanced co-existence with nature.
SCT is leading an ambitious project to conserve this Tiger, the antecedent of all tigers, and reintroduce them into their natural habitat from 2008. SCT is working with the Chinese government to establish a Conservation model through the creation of a National Reserve in China. The project's aim is to provide an outstanding natural habitat and to create jobs in eco-tourism for local economic development.
The model will combine elements of the unique Chinese cultural heritage and proven African wildlife and eco-tourism management expertise to reintroduce the Tiger as well as other indigenous flora and fauna in what we hope will become the first Chinese Tiger Pilot Reserve in China . This process is known as rewildling. |

Laohu Valley Reserve
Laohu valley reserve is the centre for the rewilding of the tigers. It is located near the small town of Phillippolis, Free State in South Africa. It has an area of 33, 000 hectares and it stretches right over Orange River with 1/3 of the area in Northern Cape and the other 2/3 in the Free State. The very uniquely located reserve is made up of 17 pieces of defunct sheep farms. Therefore it should not be too difficult to restore the habitat.
Madonna is the cutest tiger by far and one of the staff's favourites/ When she arrived in Laohu Valley in November 2004 she was in pain (due to a broken tooth) and severely dehydrated, leading to a natural shyness. Even though she is the smallest, she is definitely the bravest. Recently Madonna was found to be succesfully hunting entirely on her own, proving that she is not only cute, but also a really ferocious tiger.
Tiger 327 (soon to be named) is the newest recruit to the Laohu Valley reserve. He has come over from China with the task of mating with Cathay. 327 (a stud tiger). is of good health amd has enjoyed settling in. We have good reason to be hopeful that 327 will father a number of cubs in the future and is making good progress in his new home.
Cathay arrived at the Laohu Valley reserve in September 2003 after a long journy from China. Cathay is our most playful tiger. She loves to play either with toys (the football is her favourite) or other tigers. Cathay also loves water and can often be found lying or playing in their drinking trough.
Tigerwoods is the clown out of the four tigers and has a certain arrogance about him. Tigerwoods loves attention and whenever there are any film crews around he has a habit of playing 'cute', rolling onto his back and looking up at you with his big brown eyes.
