Adopt a Chimpanzee Chimpanzees are threatened by the bushmeat trade, which represents a perpetual serious threat to African wildlife and primates in particular. Wildlife is now snatched from the forests in increasingly large numbers to fuel heavily commercialised trade, which supplies large cities and even extends to foreign countries. Chimpanzees are also snatched from the wild to supply the pet trade and entertainment industry. Many are abandoned when they become fully grown, boisterous adults. From an original 25 range countries, chimpanzees have already been wiped out from five and are at extreme risk of extinction in a further nine. Sadly, today only ten African countries can lay claim to having more than 1,000 chimpanzees. Care for the Wild International works with the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Kenya to provide a place of shelter for orphaned chimpanzees. By becoming a foster parent you are enabling us to continue improving the lives of Tess and Naika and other displaced or injured animals, and to protect the habitats of their wild counterparts Chimpanzee Adoption - £29.95 For just £29.95* you can adopt Naika or Tess for one year and receive: A personalised adoption certificate with a picture of your chosen chimp An exclusive chimp soft toy A CWI window sticker An update on your chimp's progress after six months of adoption. Care for the Wild International (Registered Charity No. 288802) Care for the Wild International (CWI) is an animal welfare and conservation charity that funds practical projects . We make areas safe from poachers, rehabilitate sick or injured animals and provide sanctuary for those who cannot return to the wild. We also act as a global voice for wildlife through research, education and advocacy. Adopt Tess ![]() Tess was on sale in a market place looking miserable and malnourished when she was rescued by a member of the public who felt sorry for her. Poachers had killed her mother and she was very lonely and traumatised. Tess’s new owner did her best to care for her, but it is very difficult to look after a wild animal and Tess eventually caused havoc in her new home. She was then taken to a unique animal rescue centre in Kenya called Sweetwaters Chimpanzees Sanctuary. Here she quickly made friends with another young chimpanzee also raised by people. When both young chimps were confident enough they were introduced into a group of chimpanzees of a similar age who they could play with. Tess is a very friendly and quiet chimp who still enjoys the company of people. She has settled into her new home remarkably well and enjoys socialising and playing with the other chimps. Adopt Naika ![]() Naika was only a few weeks old when poachers killed her mother and family and sold her to an Egyptian circus. Although she was terribly traumatised by these events, she was forced to do tricks to entertain audiences. She was abandoned by the circus when she became ill and could no longer perform. She was suffering from pneumonia and would have died if it were not for Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary who rescued her. There she was given the loving care and medical attention she needed and has grown into a healthy and happy young chimp. At Sweetwaters she shares a vast natural habitat enclosure with twelve other chimpanzee playmates, all of a similar age. Naika is now very strong and determined for her age, and could be a future dominant female. |
